Winter Weather Advisory in Northern California: Snow and High Winds Expected Through This Afternoon

Shasta County, CA – Residents in Northern California should brace for significant snowfall and hazardous travel conditions today.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday. Snowfall between 6 and 12 inches is expected above 5,000 feet, with additional accumulation of 4 to 9 inches down to 3,500 feet in some areas. Winds could gust up to 40 mph, further complicating travel.

Major routes, including stretches near Shasta Lake and Burney Basin, will likely experience slick and snowy conditions. Travelers should check Caltrans road updates at quickmap.dot.ca.gov before heading out.

The heaviest snow is anticipated during the morning hours, impacting the commute. Additional storms are expected through the weekend, potentially bringing more snow to the Sierra Nevada.
