Naples, Florida – Smoke could settle back over roadways and neighborhoods overnight, reducing visibility for drivers across Collier County as winds shift direction before midnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, light westerly winds will turn easterly overnight, pushing smoke from the Newman Fire back across Naples, Marco Island, Lely, and nearby communities. This shift is expected to concentrate smoke near the ground through the overnight hours into early Wednesday, creating localized visibility issues.

In Naples and along U.S. 41 and I-75, drivers may encounter sudden drops in visibility, especially near low-lying areas and roadways closer to the fire zone. Marco Island and Everglades City could also see hazy conditions linger into the morning commute. Officials warn that smoke levels may fluctuate quickly over short distances.

Residents sensitive to air quality should limit time outdoors, while motorists are urged to slow down and use low-beam headlights if visibility drops. Keeping windows closed overnight may help reduce indoor smoke exposure.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve after sunrise as winds mix the air, but additional advisories could be issued if smoke remains concentrated across southwest Florida.
