Residents and visitors in the San Francisco Bay Area are advised to remain cautious as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory and a High Surf Advisory for the region.
According to the NWS, the Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 1 p.m. Monday, with minor flooding expected along bayshore areas of San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay. Higher-than-usual astronomical tides are contributing to flooding risks in low-lying areas during high tides, with peak tides forecasted at 6.74 feet this morning and increasing to 7.07 feet by Saturday morning.
The High Surf Advisory begins at 1 p.m. today and continues until 4 a.m. Friday, with large breaking waves of 18 to 22 feet expected along northwest and west-facing beaches. These conditions pose risks of localized beach erosion, sneaker waves, and strong rip currents, making swimming and surfing dangerous.
Officials urge residents to avoid flood-prone areas and exercise caution on roads that may be closed due to standing water. Swimmers and inexperienced surfers are advised to stay out of the water during the advisory period.
