North Bay, CA – A flood watch is in effect from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening as an atmospheric river threatens to bring heavy rain and potential flooding across the region. Residents in Marin, Sonoma, and Napa counties should prepare for significant rainfall, urban flooding, and potential road hazards.
According to the National Weather Service, rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are expected in the valleys, with higher elevations possibly receiving up to 5 inches. This will lead to rapid rises in streams and rivers, especially in low-lying areas and places with poor drainage. Emergency officials recommend monitoring weather alerts closely and preparing sandbags if necessary.
Impacts will be widespread, with increased risks of road closures and hazardous travel conditions. Storm drains and ditches could become clogged, exacerbating urban flooding. Those traveling on Highway 101 through the North Bay should exercise caution, as rockslides and pooling water are possible.
Friday’s storm marks the start of an intense weather system continuing into Saturday. Winds could also strengthen during the heaviest rains, causing additional concerns for power outages and downed trees. Temperatures will remain cool, with highs in the mid-50s through Sunday.
Looking ahead, the five-day forecast shows a break in precipitation by Sunday evening, followed by cooler, drier conditions early next week. Stay updated through local alerts, and follow flood safety tips at National Weather Service.
