Blacksburg, VA – A frost advisory is in effect early Tuesday morning, May 12, across parts of western Virginia and southeastern West Virginia, with temperatures expected to fall into the mid-30s.
According to the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, the advisory runs from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday and includes Bath County in Virginia, along with eastern and western Greenbrier counties in West Virginia. Communities impacted include Hot Springs, Lewisburg, White Sulphur Springs, and Rainelle.
Cool, calm overnight conditions will allow temperatures to drop low enough for frost formation, especially in valleys and sheltered areas before sunrise.
The main concern is damage to sensitive outdoor vegetation. Plants left uncovered overnight could be harmed or killed during the early morning hours as temperatures approach the mid-30s.
Residents are urged to take precautions late Monday night by covering tender plants or bringing them indoors if possible. Even brief exposure to frost can impact gardens and early-season crops.
Temperatures are expected to rise after sunrise Tuesday, ending the frost threat by mid-morning.
