Cleveland, OH – A frost advisory is in effect overnight May 11–12 across much of northern Ohio and parts of northwest Pennsylvania, with temperatures expected to dip to around 33 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, the advisory runs from midnight through 8 a.m. Tuesday and impacts major cities including Cleveland, Toledo, Akron, Canton, Lorain, and Sandusky, along with Erie, Pennsylvania.
The advisory spans a large portion of the region, including northwest, north central, and northeast Ohio, where clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to fall into the low 30s by early morning.
The primary concern is frost formation that could damage or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation. Gardens, flowers, and early-season crops are especially vulnerable if left unprotected during these near-freezing conditions.
Residents are urged to take precautions Monday night by covering tender plants or bringing them indoors. Even a few hours of frost can significantly impact vegetation during this stage of the growing season.
Temperatures are expected to rise after sunrise Tuesday, ending the frost threat by mid-morning.
This late-season chill is a reminder that frost remains a risk across the region despite recent spring warmth.
