Will County, IL Events June 16-21: Kayaking, Fishing and BYOB Bingo

Joliet, IL – The Forest Preserve District of Will County is offering a wide range of outdoor programs and family-friendly activities during the week of June 16 through June 21, including kayaking classes, Father’s Day fishing events, birdwatching opportunities and BYOB Bingo.

According to the Forest Preserve District of Will County, the week begins with Kayak Kollege for Teens on June 16 at Monee Reservoir, where participants ages 13-17 can learn kayaking basics from certified instructors. Also on June 16, young children and caregivers can explore the world of insects during Nature Play Day After Hours – Bugs at Plum Creek Nature Center in Crete Township.

On June 18, residents can celebrate the start of summer during Summer Era Starts at the Reservoir at Monee Reservoir. The free event includes kayaking demonstrations, fishing, yard games and campfire s’mores. That same evening, adults 21 and older can enjoy BYOB Bingo at Prairie Bluff Preserve in Crest Hill.

Father’s Day weekend features Illinois’ annual Free Fishing Days from June 19-21. At Monee Reservoir, anglers can fish without a license, and fathers will receive free bait and small gifts while supplies last. Hidden Lakes Trout Farm in Bolingbrook will also offer free fishing pole rentals, giveaways and special Father’s Day activities.

Other featured events include a six-week Be a Beekeeper Class at Plum Creek Nature Center, House Hunters – Bluebird Edition, a guided Leaf It to Me Hike at Four Rivers Environmental Education Center in Channahon and Fishing Under the Stars at Hidden Lakes Trout Farm.

Bird enthusiasts can also visit Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve in Plainfield on Saturdays through Aug. 9 for seasonal viewing of nesting herons, egrets, cormorants and bald eagles.
