Salt Lake City, UT – A powerful winter storm is bringing heavy snowfall to Utah’s mountains, with travel conditions expected to remain hazardous through Saturday. Areas across the Wasatch Mountains, Uinta Mountains, and southern Utah are forecasted to receive up to 2 feet of snow in higher elevations, with gusty winds further reducing visibility.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Salt Lake City, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 p.m. MST Saturday for northern and central Utah’s mountain ranges, including the Wasatch Mountains, Uinta Mountains, and Wasatch Back, where 6 to 12 inches of snow is expected. In Park City, totals could reach 8 inches, while higher elevations in the Upper Cottonwoods and Bear River Range may exceed 2 feet.
In southern Utah, including Brian Head and the Tushar Range, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 p.m. MST Friday, with 4 to 8 inches of additional snowfall, locally reaching 12 inches.
The storm is expected to impact travel significantly, with blowing snow and wind gusts up to 45 mph creating dangerous driving conditions. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has warned that traction law restrictions may be enforced in mountain areas.
Drivers are urged to check UDOT Traffic before traveling and carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and a flashlight.
