Spartanburg, SC – A winter storm is bringing a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain to Spartanburg and surrounding areas Friday, with hazardous conditions expected to persist into Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Saturday. Total snow and sleet accumulation could reach up to 2 inches in parts of the region, with ice accumulations ranging from 0.1 to 0.3 inches, particularly south of I-85.
The storm will begin with snow this afternoon, transitioning to freezing rain and sleet overnight. Driving conditions are expected to be treacherous, with ice on roads, tree limbs, and power lines potentially causing isolated power outages. Visibility may also be reduced due to patchy fog.
Residents are urged to exercise caution while traveling and keep emergency supplies, including flashlights and water, on hand. The storm is expected to clear by early Saturday, with sunny skies returning later in the day and a high near 40°F.
