Waynoka, Oklahoma – Minor flooding along the Cimarron River is impacting low-lying areas near Waynoka and surrounding counties through midday Wednesday, prompting a continued Flood Warning.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, the Cimarron River was at 8.1 feet as of 1:30 a.m., just above the 8.0-foot flood stage. The warning remains in effect until 12 p.m. today, with water levels expected to fall below flood stage by late morning. Affected areas include Woods, Woodward, and Major counties, particularly near U.S. Highway 281 south of Little Sahara State Park.

Flooding is considered minor but may still impact agricultural land, rural roads, and other low-lying areas close to the riverbanks. Residents near Freedom, Orienta, and Waynoka are urged to use caution.

Drivers should avoid submerged roads and heed barricades. “Turn around, don’t drown” remains critical advice, especially overnight or in poor visibility conditions.

With no additional rain in the immediate forecast, river levels should gradually return to normal. However, residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service in case conditions change.
