Kankakee County, IL – Residents looking to clear out old electronics this spring can take advantage of a free e-waste recycling program available now at a designated drop-off site in Bourbonnais.

According to the Kankakee County Board, the program allows residents to recycle items such as televisions, computers, printers, and DVD players at no cost. The service is operated through Belson Steel Center Scrap, located at 1685 North State Route 50 in Bourbonnais, within Kankakee County near the Chicago metro region.

The recycling site is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with additional hours on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Officials say the program is designed to reduce electronic waste in landfills while providing residents with a convenient disposal option.

The initiative aligns with Earth Day efforts, encouraging environmentally responsible practices across the county. Electronics often contain hazardous materials that can pose risks if improperly discarded, making recycling programs like this a key part of local sustainability efforts.

Residents are encouraged to review any specific guidelines or restrictions before arriving, including potential limits on certain items or quantities. More details, including accepted materials and exclusions, are available through the county’s official website.

County leaders say participation helps protect the environment while keeping communities clean, especially during peak spring cleaning season when residents are more likely to dispose of outdated electronics.
