Bloomington, IN – A 49-year-old Bloomington man died after his motorcycle collided with a car Thursday evening in Monroe County, prompting an investigation by the county’s Major Crash Investigation Team.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 7:47 p.m. Thursday to the intersection of North Starnes Road and West Reeves Road for a motor vehicle crash involving injuries.
Investigators said a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling south on North Starnes Road while a Ford Fusion was traveling west on West Reeves Road. The two vehicles collided within the intersection.
The 49-year-old Bloomington man operating the motorcycle died from injuries sustained in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities did not immediately release his identity.
The Ford Fusion was driven by a 16-year-old girl from Spencer, authorities said. She is cooperating with investigators. The sheriff’s office did not announce any charges or provide additional information about injuries to the teenage driver.
The Monroe County Major Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene and is working to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The crash occurred in Monroe County near Bloomington, about 50 miles south of Indianapolis. Drivers traveling through the area should remain aware of the intersection as investigators continue reviewing the circumstances of the fatal collision.
Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available. The investigation remained ongoing Friday morning.
