Jamestown, N.Y. – Snow and powerful wind gusts are creating dangerous travel conditions across western New York, with blowing and drifting snow expected to worsen through Tuesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties. Additional snowfall of 2 to 5 inches is expected, with the heaviest totals in higher terrain inland from Lake Erie. Wind gusts up to 45 mph will lead to reduced visibility and drifting snow across roadways.

Communities including Jamestown and Olean are seeing rapidly changing conditions, especially on routes like I-86 and rural highways where open areas allow snow to drift. Bridges and overpasses are likely to become icy, increasing the risk of accidents throughout the day.

Officials warn that strong winds may also down tree branches, leading to isolated power outages. Drivers should slow down, allow extra travel time, and prepare for sudden visibility drops.

Snow and wind will continue through the evening hours before conditions gradually improve overnight, though slick roads may linger into early Wednesday.
