Albany, New York – Roads across eastern New York and parts of New England are turning slick this afternoon as snow mixes with sleet and freezing rain ahead of the evening commute.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Albany, Mount Holly and Binghamton, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect across portions of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts and southern Vermont. Ice accumulations up to two tenths of an inch are possible in parts of the eastern Catskills, Taconics and Berkshire regions through 5 a.m. Wednesday, while areas farther south in New Jersey and northeast Pennsylvania could see a light glaze through 7 p.m.

Across the Hudson Valley, including Albany, Troy, Kingston and Poughkeepsie, up to 2 inches of snow and sleet will transition to freezing rain this evening. In the Mohawk and Schoharie valleys, ice totals could reach 0.20 inches, increasing the risk of slippery secondary roads and untreated bridges.

Farther south, Morristown, Newton, Stroudsburg and Binghamton face patchy icing that may create hazardous conditions on Interstates 80, 81 and 84 during peak travel hours.

Drivers should reduce speed, allow extra braking distance and check 511 services before heading out. Precipitation tapers late tonight, but slick spots may linger into early Wednesday as temperatures hover near freezing.
