Birmingham, Alabama – Dry air and rising temperatures are creating an increasing fire risk across central Alabama, with little to no rainfall expected through the rest of the workweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, rain chances remain near zero through at least Friday, while highs climb into the mid to upper 80s and even low 90s in cities like Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, and Anniston. Overnight lows will stay mild in the 60s, allowing dry conditions to persist around the clock.
The lack of rainfall combined with warm temperatures is drying out vegetation, particularly in rural and wooded areas across central Alabama. Fire officials warn that even small sparks—from equipment, vehicles, or unattended campfires—could quickly ignite and spread.
Rain chances begin to return slightly over the weekend, with some locations seeing up to a 20 to 50 percent chance by Sunday. However, coverage remains uncertain, and many areas may stay dry longer.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, properly dispose of cigarettes, and follow wildfire prevention guidelines. Conditions will remain favorable for fire spread until more consistent rainfall returns, and additional advisories may be issued later this week.
