Lake Charles, La. – A fast-moving line of thunderstorms could bring damaging winds and large hail to southern Louisiana and southeast Texas early Monday, with the greatest risk lasting through 7 a.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for much of central and southern Louisiana, including Lake Charles, Alexandria, and Lafayette. The primary hazards include wind gusts over 60 mph and hail up to quarter-size. A Tornado Watch is also in effect, although the risk for twisters is considered low.

Cities along the I-10 corridor—such as Beaumont, Lake Charles, and Lafayette—should prepare for rapidly changing road conditions, fallen branches, and possible power outages during the morning commute. Officials advise residents to monitor local alerts, secure outdoor items, and avoid travel if possible until the storms clear.

While the storms are expected to exit the area shortly after sunrise, lingering rain and slick roads may still pose hazards through mid-morning. Additional alerts could be issued if the storm intensifies.
