Charleston, WV – A stormy stretch of weather is expected across central West Virginia through Wednesday night before a dramatic warmup sends temperatures soaring into the 90s by early next week.
According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are likely throughout Wednesday across the Charleston metro area and surrounding Kanawha Valley communities. Some storms may produce heavier rainfall and gusty winds during the afternoon and evening hours. High temperatures are expected to reach near 74 degrees.
Forecasters say rain chances remain elevated Wednesday night, with additional showers and isolated thunderstorms continuing before gradually tapering overnight. Cooler air moves into the region behind the system, dropping temperatures into the lower 40s by Thursday morning.
Thursday will bring mostly cloudy skies and noticeably cooler conditions with highs near 63 degrees. Dry weather returns Thursday night into Friday as sunshine begins to reappear across much of the state.
Friday is forecast to turn mostly sunny with highs climbing back into the mid-70s. The warming trend accelerates into the weekend as temperatures surge into the mid-80s Saturday with additional scattered shower and thunderstorm chances returning during the afternoon and evening.
By Sunday and Monday, summerlike heat builds across West Virginia. Highs are expected to reach near 93 degrees Sunday and climb to around 96 degrees Monday before remaining in the mid-90s Tuesday.
