Chicago, IL – A cool and breezy stretch of weather will continue across the Chicago area through Thursday before a dramatic warmup pushes temperatures into the 80s heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday will remain mostly cloudy with highs near 57 degrees across the Chicago metro area. Northeasterly winds could gust up to 25 mph, especially closer to Lake Michigan, keeping temperatures cooler than average for mid-May.

Forecasters say skies will gradually clear Wednesday night with overnight lows dipping into the mid-40s. Sunshine returns Thursday with highs once again near 57 degrees before a gradual warming trend begins late in the week.

A slight chance of overnight showers develops Thursday night ahead of a warmer weather pattern Friday. Temperatures are expected to climb sharply Friday with highs reaching near 76 degrees under partly sunny skies. Isolated showers remain possible during the afternoon and evening hours.

Saturday is forecast to be the warmest day of the extended forecast with highs near 85 degrees across much of Cook County and surrounding northern Illinois communities. However, scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop later Saturday afternoon into Saturday night.

Additional shower and thunderstorm chances continue Sunday into early next week as temperatures remain mild, including highs near 88 degrees Monday before cooler air gradually returns Tuesday.
