Blacksburg, VA – Southwest Virginia is expected to see a brief round of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday before dry and significantly warmer weather builds into the region through the weekend and early next week.
According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday will begin sunny before clouds increase during the afternoon across the Blacksburg area. Showers and thunderstorms are likely after 4 p.m., with some storms potentially producing heavier rainfall and gusty winds. High temperatures are forecast to reach near 73 degrees.
Forecasters say rain chances continue Wednesday night with additional scattered showers and thunderstorms possible before conditions gradually clear overnight. Cooler air moves into the region behind the system, dropping overnight lows into the mid-40s.
Thursday will turn noticeably cooler and breezy with mostly sunny skies and highs near 60 degrees. Northwest wind gusts could reach up to 23 mph during the afternoon across Montgomery County and surrounding portions of southwest Virginia.
Dry weather quickly returns Friday with abundant sunshine and highs rebounding into the lower 70s. The warming trend strengthens heading into the weekend as temperatures climb into the lower 80s Saturday with only isolated shower chances returning during the afternoon.
Summerlike warmth expands across the region Sunday through Tuesday. Highs are expected to reach near 87 degrees Sunday, around 89 degrees Monday, and remain in the upper 80s Tuesday under mostly sunny skies.
