Amarillo, TX – Hot and dry conditions will persist across the Texas Panhandle this week, with temperatures climbing near or above 100 degrees and only limited chances for isolated thunderstorms beginning Wednesday, May 14.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, highs will range from the upper 80s to low 100s through the end of the week, with the hottest days expected Thursday, May 15, through Sunday, May 18. Overnight lows will remain mild, generally in the 50s to upper 60s.
Beginning Wednesday, a very low chance of isolated thunderstorms will develop during the afternoon and early evening hours. While rainfall is expected to be minimal, any storms that form could produce strong wind gusts, creating localized hazards.
Storm chances remain around 10% through Friday, May 16, before increasing slightly over the weekend, particularly in eastern portions of the Panhandle. By Sunday, May 18, storm chances could reach around 30% in some areas.
Despite the introduction of storm chances, forecasters emphasize that most locations will remain dry, with heat continuing to be the primary concern.
The combination of hot temperatures, dry conditions, and gusty winds could also elevate fire weather risks across parts of the region.
Residents are encouraged to limit outdoor activity during peak heat, stay hydrated, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions if storms develop later in the day.
