Memphis, TN – A warming trend is set to bring early summer-like heat back to the Mid-South, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and near 90 degrees by Friday, May 15, and continuing through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a brief cooldown is expected Thursday, May 14, following a cold front passing through Wednesday night. Highs will dip slightly into the upper 70s to low 80s before rebounding quickly.
By Friday, temperatures across western Tennessee, northern Mississippi, and eastern Arkansas will rise into the mid to upper 80s, with some locations reaching 90 degrees. Cities including Memphis, Jackson, Tupelo, and Jonesboro are all expected to experience the warming trend.
The heat will persist through the weekend, May 16–17, with highs consistently ranging from the upper 80s to near 90 degrees across the region.
Despite the rising temperatures, conditions are expected to remain dry through at least Sunday, limiting any immediate rain chances and allowing for consistent warming across the Mid-South.
Forecasters note that temperatures could run around 10 degrees above average for mid-May, signaling an early taste of summer across the region.
Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and prepare for increasing heat, especially during afternoon hours as temperatures peak heading into the weekend.
