Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Temperatures will fall to around 32°F by midnight, leading to frost across western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia through early Friday morning, with the highest risk before 9 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service, a Frost Advisory remains in effect overnight for much of the region, including Butler, Westmoreland, Fayette, and Mercer counties in Pennsylvania, and Preston, Monongalia, and Tucker counties in West Virginia. Additional advisories cover parts of central and eastern West Virginia and western Maryland, where lows will range from 32°F to 35°F .
Cities such as Butler, Greensburg, Uniontown, and Kingwood will see the coldest conditions, especially in valleys and higher elevations. Major routes including I-79 and I-70 are not expected to close, but patchy frost could develop on bridges and rural roads before sunrise.
The main impact is to vegetation. Sensitive plants and early crops can be damaged or killed if left uncovered for several hours. Cover plants or bring them indoors before midnight.
Temperatures will rise above freezing after 8 to 9 a.m. Friday. More alerts are possible if clear skies persist overnight, with updates expected early Friday morning.
