Cheyenne, Wyoming — A sharp weather shift will bring rain, thunderstorms and eventual snow to southeast Wyoming starting Monday afternoon, with the most significant impacts expected from 6 p.m. Monday through 9 a.m. Wednesday in Cheyenne, Laramie, Wheatland, Scottsbluff and Torrington.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, scattered thunderstorms will develop Monday afternoon between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m., followed by widespread rain Monday night transitioning to snow in higher elevations above 6,000 feet through Wednesday morning.
This is part of a broader system driving a rapid cooldown across the region, with temperatures dropping from the 60s Monday into the 30s and 40s by Tuesday.
Rain may quickly create slick roads and ponding on low-lying areas Monday evening, especially along I-80 and I-25. As colder air moves in overnight, higher elevations near Laramie and along mountain passes could see snow-covered roads and reduced visibility, particularly in early morning hours Tuesday when conditions deteriorate rapidly.
Drivers should slow on wet roads Monday evening and prepare for winter driving conditions in higher terrain Tuesday, while residents should monitor updates as precipitation type changes.
The most hazardous travel window will occur between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. Tuesday, when rain transitions to snow and road conditions worsen across southeast Wyoming.
