Jackson, MS – A dangerous cold front is sweeping across Mississippi, bringing frigid temperatures and snow beginning Monday night. A Cold Weather Advisory has been issued from 6 p.m. Sunday through 9 a.m. Thursday, with wind chills possibly falling below 10°F.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for areas along and south of the I-20 corridor. Snow accumulation is most likely on Tuesday, with totals of 2 to 4 inches expected in southern parts of the state. Some locations may see higher amounts depending on conditions.

The advisory warns of wind chills as low as 5°F at night, with freezing conditions continuing through midweek. The cold temperatures increase risks of hypothermia and frostbite with prolonged exposure.

Residents are urged to take precautions, including keeping pets indoors, checking on elderly neighbors, and ensuring portable heaters are used safely. Outdoor animals should have access to food, water, and warm shelter.

Travel could become hazardous, especially in areas expecting snow accumulation. Drivers are advised to use caution on bridges and overpasses, which may freeze quickly. The NWS predicts clearer skies and slightly warmer conditions by Wednesday afternoon.
