Amarillo, TX – Temperatures in the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles will struggle to rise above freezing through Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo. Highs are forecast to remain in the teens and 20s across the region, with some areas experiencing brief relief near freezing.

According to the NWS, Sunday’s high temperatures will peak at 26°F to 29°F in Amarillo and nearby areas like Guymon, OK, and Dalhart, TX. By Monday, highs will drop further, ranging between 15°F and 23°F across the Panhandle. Residents are urged to bundle up and limit outdoor activities as frigid conditions persist.

These below-freezing temperatures are expected to continue into next week, bringing prolonged exposure risks such as frostbite and hypothermia. Drivers should prepare for icy patches on roads, particularly during morning commutes, as low overnight temperatures create hazardous conditions.

Officials recommend wearing layers, keeping emergency supplies in vehicles, and protecting pets and livestock from the extreme cold. Stay tuned to the NWS for updates on evolving weather conditions.

Residents can expect a gradual warm-up later in the week, but the Panhandle remains under winter-weather vigilance through early next week.
