Asheville, NC – A wind advisory has been issued for much of western North Carolina, starting at 7 p.m. Friday and lasting until 7 a.m. Saturday, as strong northwest winds are expected to sweep through the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Greenville-Spartanburg, winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are anticipated in counties including Avery, Buncombe, Henderson, Mitchell, and Yancey, as well as the mountainous areas of Burke, Caldwell, McDowell, and Rutherford. High elevations above 3,500 feet in Haywood, Jackson, Macon, and Transylvania counties are also under advisory.

The NWS warns that the gusty winds could dislodge unsecured objects, damage tree limbs, and potentially cause power outages. Motorists, particularly those driving high-profile vehicles, should exercise caution as these conditions can make driving difficult.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and remain informed through NOAA Weather Radio or other trusted sources for updates. For further details, visit www.weather.gov/gsp.
