Colorado – Slushy snow and cold rain are moving in fast, and roads across Colorado Springs could turn slick by mid-afternoon as temperatures fall and precipitation intensifies.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, rain transitions to snow through the afternoon, with precipitation chances near 70% and gusty winds up to 35 mph. Minor snow accumulation is expected, but conditions can deteriorate quickly as colder air deepens .

Colorado Springs, Fountain, and Monument will see wet roads early, but slush and light snow may begin sticking on grassy areas and elevated surfaces. Drivers along I-25 and Highway 24 should prepare for reduced visibility and sudden slick spots, especially during heavier bursts.

By evening, skies begin to clear, but temperatures drop sharply into the low 20s. That creates a prime setup for flash freezing, where melted snow refreezes on roads and sidewalks. Black ice could develop quickly before sunrise, especially on bridges and untreated surfaces.

A Freeze Warning is in effect, with temperatures falling into the teens and 20s across southern Colorado. Sensitive plants and outdoor plumbing are at risk. Take time now to cover vegetation and protect exposed pipes .

Conditions improve Saturday with sunshine and highs near the mid-50s. By Sunday, temperatures rebound into the 70s, bringing a dramatic spring turnaround after the brief cold snap.

The pattern stays mild into early next week, with highs climbing into the upper 70s and low 80s. Another system may bring showers midweek, but for now, the focus is on today’s fast-changing conditions.
