Romeoville, IL – Fire crews responded to an early morning house fire Sunday in Romeoville, quickly containing a second-floor blaze inside a single-family home in Will County.
According to the Lockport Township Fire Protection District, the incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. Sunday, May 10, 2026, in the 100 block of Mountain Laurel Court, located in Romeoville near the southwest suburbs of Chicago. Initial crews arrived to find smoke coming from the second floor of the residence.
Firefighters determined the source was a small fire inside a bedroom on the second floor. Crews launched an aggressive interior attack and were able to extinguish the flames before they spread further.
Officials said the occupants were not home at the time of the fire. The damage was largely contained to the room where the fire started, and no injuries were reported.
The incident was elevated to a general alarm, bringing in additional support from neighboring departments including Plainfield, Homer, and East Joliet to assist with coverage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Lockport fire investigators in coordination with the Romeoville Police Department. No further details have been released.
