Pittsburgh, PA – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for portions of southwestern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia until 10 a.m. Saturday, with heavy snow and gusty winds expected to create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations between 5 and 12 inches are forecast, with wind gusts reaching up to 45 mph. Affected areas include higher elevations of Westmoreland, Fayette, Indiana counties in Pennsylvania, and Preston and Tucker counties in West Virginia. The heaviest snowfall is expected through Friday morning, transitioning to snow showers and possible squalls later in the day.
Travel conditions could become dangerous, particularly during the Friday morning and evening commutes. Wind gusts may also cause power outages and bring down tree branches.
Residents are urged to use caution and avoid travel if possible. Those who must drive are advised to carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water. For updated road conditions, call 511 or check local transportation websites.
The National Weather Service encourages reporting of snow or ice accumulations via its hotline, social media platforms, or Twitter handle @NWSPittsburgh.
