Peoria, IL Police: Machine Gun, Stolen Firearm Found in Drug Call

Peoria, IL – Two men were arrested after Peoria police investigating alleged drug activity early Tuesday said they found illegal drugs and a stolen firearm equipped with an automatic switch.

According to the Peoria Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of N. Sheridan Road at approximately 1:46 a.m. Tuesday following a report of illegal drug activity.

Officers arrived and found a parked vehicle containing three men. Police said investigators developed probable cause to search the individuals.

During a search of 30-year-old Lamontre L. Walker, officers allegedly discovered a firearm equipped with an automatic switch, according to police. Authorities said the firearm had also been reported stolen.

Police said officers also found illegal drugs on 37-year-old Elliot M. Hughes. A third man at the scene was released.

Walker and Hughes were taken to the Peoria Police Department for further investigation before being transported to the Peoria County Jail.

Walker was charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm without a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification card, possession of a machine gun or automatic weapon, possession of a stolen firearm and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, police said.

Hughes was charged with unlawful possession with intent to deliver, unlawful delivery of cannabis and unlawful possession of cannabis.

The charges are allegations, and both men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
