Davenport, Iowa – Thunderstorms developing south of Interstate 80 could intensify through Wednesday evening, bringing large hail, heavy rain, gusty winds and the possibility of funnel clouds or brief tornadoes to parts of eastern Iowa and western Illinois through 11 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, storms are developing along a boundary south of I-80 and should increase in coverage and intensity into the evening. A Level 1 of 5 severe weather risk remains in place, with the greatest storm coverage expected along and south of U.S. Highway 34.

Communities near Burlington, Fort Madison and Ottumwa in Iowa and Galesburg, Macomb and areas south of the Quad Cities in Illinois could see storms. Davenport sits near the northern edge of the area where activity is expected to increase.

Heavy downpours could produce ponding on roads and parking lots, while gusty winds may bring down tree branches. Large hail could also damage vehicles left outdoors. Funnel clouds and brief tornadoes remain possible.

Residents should move indoors when thunder is heard and keep multiple methods available to receive warnings. Anyone traveling on I-80, Highway 34 or nearby roads should watch for rapidly changing conditions.

Storms remain possible through 11 p.m., and isolated severe weather could develop as activity increases this evening. Additional warnings may be issued for individual storms.
