Charleston, WV – A winter weather advisory is in effect for portions of central, southern, and western West Virginia through Saturday afternoon. Residents can expect snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches in the lowlands, with up to 7 inches possible in higher elevations, creating hazardous road conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snowfall is anticipated tonight into early Saturday, with snow showers tapering off by late Saturday afternoon. Gusty winds are also expected, especially in the mountains, which could cause additional challenges for travelers. Authorities are urging drivers to slow down and avoid unnecessary travel during this period.

Snow is expected to begin late this afternoon, with temperatures hovering near 30 degrees. Tonight, snow will intensify, dropping temperatures to the mid-20s. Saturday will bring continued snow showers, with a high near 32 degrees before conditions improve by the evening.

Looking ahead, Sunday will be sunny with a high of 37 degrees, offering a brief reprieve before another chance of snow on Monday. Monday’s system could bring light accumulations and icy conditions to morning commutes.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed through local updates and check road conditions by dialing 511. Ensure vehicles are equipped with emergency supplies, and take extra caution on untreated roads.
