Charleston, West Virginia – Storms are brewing across West Virginia, with Monday shaping up to bring dangerous heat and afternoon thunderstorms to Charleston and nearby areas. Daytime highs will reach 94°F, with heat index values making it feel closer to 100°F. Thunderstorms could roll in after 1 p.m., making outdoor plans risky and travel potentially hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service, a 20 percent chance of storms starts after 1 p.m. Monday, increasing significantly by nightfall. By Monday night, storm chances jump to 60%, with the strongest activity likely before 2 a.m. Tuesday. Light winds and intense humidity could further increase the storm’s impact across Kanawha County, especially along I-64 and U.S. Route 60.

Drivers should remain alert for slick roads during the Monday evening commute. Residents are advised to avoid non-essential travel after sunset and charge phones and medical devices in advance of possible outages. Thunderstorms may bring locally heavy rainfall and isolated wind gusts.

Tuesday brings another wave of severe summer weather. Showers and storms become likely after 4 p.m., continuing through Tuesday night. Highs remain near 88°F, but with moist air and unstable conditions, flash flooding and lightning remain concerns.
