Buffalo, NY – Scattered thunderstorms and flash flood concerns could hit parts of western New York by Monday evening as a potent summer system pushes in.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a mix of high humidity and building heat will set the stage for thunderstorms to develop after 2 p.m. Monday, with the heaviest rainfall and storm activity expected through late Monday night. Roads in Erie, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties — including stretches of I-90 — may see standing water or reduced visibility due to localized downpours.
High temperatures in Buffalo and surrounding areas are expected to climb to around 88°F Monday afternoon, but it will feel warmer due to increased humidity. Winds from the west at 6 to 11 mph may accompany storms, some of which could bring over a tenth of an inch of rain — and much more in isolated areas under thunderstorm cells.
Residents should stay alert for possible flood advisories and avoid low-lying roads during and after heavy rain. Flashlights, weather radios, and fully charged phones are recommended in case of power outages during Monday night storms.
Looking ahead, drier air moves in Tuesday with a high near 79°F, but heat and afternoon storms return by Thursday.
