Cleveland, Ohio – Strong thunderstorms could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across northern Ohio Saturday afternoon as a cold front pushes through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk is in place from midday through the early evening hours. Storms are expected to develop ahead of the front, with the primary threat being damaging wind gusts that could exceed 60 mph.
Communities including Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, and Sandusky are all within the risk zone, where storms may also produce large hail and frequent lightning. While the tornado threat remains low, forecasters say an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out in stronger cells.
The timing of storms—likely between noon and early evening—could impact weekend travel along major routes like I-90, I-71, and I-77. Brief heavy rainfall may also lead to localized ponding on roadways.
Residents are urged to monitor updates closely and have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially if spending time outdoors.
Storms are expected to weaken after sunset, but additional advisories may be issued as the system moves east.
