Chicago, IL – A stretch of seasonable spring weather is expected across the Chicago metro area this week, but Tuesday could bring impactful wind and storm conditions during peak travel hours.
According to the US National Weather Service Chicago, windy conditions will develop Tuesday with increasing chances for rain and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and into the evening. Storm chances are estimated between 30% and 60%, with the highest likelihood later in the day, potentially affecting commuters across Cook County, surrounding suburbs, and the greater Chicagoland region.
Tuesday’s high temperatures are expected to reach between 74 and 79 degrees, making it the warmest day of the week. However, gusty winds paired with developing storms could lead to reduced visibility, slick roads, and brief delays on major roadways including I-90, I-94, and I-55 during the evening commute.
Monday remains calm and sunny with highs ranging from 57 to 66 degrees, followed by a cooler and breezier Wednesday with highs between 60 and 67 degrees. Overnight lows throughout the week will dip into the 40s, keeping conditions mild but slightly cooler near Lake Michigan.
By Thursday, sunshine returns with highs in the low 60s to around 70 degrees, while another chance of showers is expected Friday alongside breezy conditions and highs in the low to mid-70s.
Drivers are advised to monitor changing conditions Tuesday afternoon and allow extra travel time if storms develop. Residents should also secure loose outdoor items due to gusty winds.
