Milwaukee, WI – Boaters in Wisconsin and Illinois are being warned of potential waterspouts forming over Lake Michigan today. The National Weather Service reports that the risk is associated with storms moving across the area. Storms may produce isolated lightning strikes, as well as short bursts of rain.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the waterspouts pose no direct threat to those on land. However, boaters on the lake should take precautions, seeking safe harbor if necessary. The waterspouts are expected to move over the lake as scattered showers shift south-southeast through tonight.
High winds and currents are also expected along the southeastern Wisconsin shoreline. Beachgoers are advised to stay out of the water due to dangerous conditions. The NWS is urging caution for all water activities, advising people to avoid piers and break walls, where currents could be life-threatening. Boaters should monitor weather updates and move to safe harbor if storms intensify.
Cooler weather is also forecasted for the weekend, with highs in the 60s and low overnight temperatures in the 40s.
