LISLE, Ill. – Three men have been charged after authorities say they allegedly stole and vandalized multiple automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras in Lisle, leading to a multi-agency investigation and arrests.
According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, Anthony Pareigis, 34, of Crestwood; Jacob Steichmann, 32, of Downers Grove; and Thomas Yano, 31, of Indian Head Park each appeared in First Appearance Court charged with two counts of theft of government property valued between $500 and $10,000 (Class 2 Felony) and two counts of criminal damage to government-supported property (Class 3 Felony). The charges are allegations, and all three men are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Authorities said the investigation began at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday, July 26, when Lisle police discovered two Flock Safety license plate reader cameras had been vandalized and stolen from unincorporated Lisle.
About an hour later, officers allegedly observed two masked individuals dressed in black approaching another camera. Police arrested Pareigis at the scene while another suspect fled on foot.
During a search of the area, officers located a 2012 Subaru roughly 400 yards away. Investigators said the vehicle contained approximately five Flock cameras, a collapsible ladder, black latex gloves, a saw, and various power tools.
Further investigation identified Steichmann and Yano as additional suspects. Both were later taken into custody by the Downers Grove Police Department.
Officials said each stolen camera is valued at approximately $2,800. Prosecutors and law enforcement leaders emphasized that automated license plate reader cameras are used to assist investigations involving missing persons, AMBER Alerts, stolen vehicles, and violent crimes.
The defendants are scheduled to appear in court again on August 24, 2026, before Judge Daniel Guerin.
