Lafayette, IN — A Lafayette man has been sentenced to 24 years for drug dealing and weapons charges after a high-speed chase in Cass County. Cameron Gonzales, 24, entered a guilty plea in April 2024 before his scheduled trial.

According to Cass County Prosecutor Noah Schafer, the charges stemmed from an April 2021 pursuit. Deputy Michael Thomison attempted to stop Gonzales’ vehicle, which was speeding at 85 mph. Gonzales accelerated, reaching speeds over 140 mph before police used stop sticks to halt the chase.

Officers found 47 pounds of marijuana, 52 fentanyl pills, firearms, and $83,000 in cash in Gonzales’ vehicle. Two accomplices were also charged. Bishop Brown, 22, and Ronald Wells, 22, both from Lafayette, were convicted of related offenses.

Gonzales also faces other charges, including dealing psilocybin and domestic battery in Tippecanoe County. Additionally, he is involved in an attempted murder case in Monroe County, Michigan.
