Burlington, VT – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snow, sleet, and ice to Vermont and northern New York from Saturday night through early Monday, making travel treacherous and potentially causing power outages.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Monday for the region. Snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inchesare expected, along with ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch. Increasing winds Sunday night could add to the hazardous conditions.

Officials warn that travel will be very difficult due to the mix of snow and ice. Isolated power outages are possible as heavy precipitation weighs down power lines and tree branches. Residents are advised to monitor forecasts for updates, as changes in the sleet and freezing rain mix could impact snowfall totals and overall conditions.

For those who must travel, authorities recommend keeping an emergency kit with a flashlight, food, and water in vehicles. Road condition updates can be found at New England 511 for Vermont and 511 NY for New York.
