Las Vegas, NV – Travelers across the Owens Valley and eastern Sierra slopes face hazardous conditions as strong winds intensify through Sunday morning. Gusts over 58 mph have been recorded along Highway 395 near Olancha, prompting officials to upgrade the area’s wind advisory to a High Wind Warning.
According to the National Weather Service, this warning will remain in effect until 4 a.m. Sunday. Wind speeds of 15–25 mph, with gusts exceeding 50 mph, are expected to impact visibility and create dangerous crosswinds. High-profile vehicles are at particular risk, especially along exposed stretches of Highway 395. Drivers should avoid unnecessary travel, secure loose objects, and remain alert to sudden gusts.
Hazardous conditions extend into the Las Vegas Valley, where gusts between 30–40 mph are forecast overnight. Blowing debris may cause low visibility, and officials urge extreme caution when traveling through Boulder City, Henderson, and downtown Las Vegas.
Sunday’s weather will bring calmer winds and mostly sunny skies, with a high near 66 degrees. However, Thanksgiving week may see light rain starting Monday afternoon, with cooler temperatures lingering into Tuesday.
Residents should monitor updates from the National Weather Service and check road conditions before heading out. Travelers along Highway 395 should remain vigilant and adjust plans as necessary.
