Amarillo, Texas – Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and massive hail are expected to hammer the Amarillo area Tuesday evening as part of a volatile summer pattern sweeping across the Texas Panhandle.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, all modes of severe weather are possible Tuesday, June 10, with the most dangerous window opening after 4 p.m. and continuing into the night. Gusts may exceed 80 mph, and hail could reach grapefruit size. Residents near I-40, US-60, and I-27 should stay alert for rapidly changing conditions.

Communities across Randall, Potter, Armstrong, and Carson counties are especially vulnerable. Power outages, uprooted trees, and damaged vehicles are likely if storms intensify as expected. NWS meteorologists say this setup brings “high-end severe potential,” urging people to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary evening travel, and ensure phones and weather radios are charged.

Storm chances remain in play through Saturday, with daily rounds of thunderstorms expected. While not every day will bring severe conditions, each afternoon may spark locally strong cells capable of downpours, wind damage, or hail.
