Dallas-Fort Worth residents will wake to another dangerous mix of heat and poor air quality Monday as conditions remain unhealthy. Drivers, outdoor workers, and families spending time outside should prepare for ozone levels to spike and temperatures to climb into the upper 90s.

According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, an Ozone Action Day remains in effect for Dallas-Fort Worth through Monday. The National Weather Service reports highs near 97°F Monday, with heat index values pushing 100. The combination could increase breathing problems, particularly for children, the elderly, and anyone with asthma.

Air quality experts urge North Texans to limit driving, avoid idling in traffic along I-35, and conserve electricity during peak hours. Walking, biking, or carpooling can help reduce smog buildup. Residents should also stay indoors during the hottest hours of the afternoon, drink water often, and never leave children or pets in parked cars.

Looking ahead, scattered showers and storm chances return by Tuesday afternoon, offering brief relief from the heat. Rain chances rise to 50% by Friday, when highs dip closer to seasonal averages in the upper 80s.

The ozone risk and heat warning remain the most immediate threats through Monday night. Additional advisories are possible if conditions worsen.

Five Day Forecast for Dallas-Fort Worth, TX:

  • Monday: Sunny, high 97°F, heat index 100°F. Low 75°F.
  • Tuesday: 20% chance of storms. High 89°F, low 71°F.
