Houston, TX – Residents in Houston, Madison, and Trinity counties, along with much of south-central and southeast Texas, are under a Freeze Warning and Cold Weather Advisory beginning tonight.

According to the National Weather Service, the Freeze Warning will be in effect from midnight Sunday until 9 a.m. Monday, with temperatures dropping as low as 22 degrees in some areas. A Cold Weather Advisory is also in place during this time, lasting until 11 a.m. Monday, with wind chills expected to fall as low as 10 degrees in northern areas and 15 degrees in the southern regions.

The frigid conditions are likely to damage crops, sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing. Officials are urging residents to take precautions, such as wrapping pipes, bringing pets indoors, and ensuring outdoor animals have adequate shelter and unfrozen water.

Travelers should dress in layers and wear hats and gloves. Additionally, older adults, friends, and neighbors should be checked on during the extreme cold. Residents are reminded to use space heaters carefully and to avoid using grills or generators indoors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

The region is expected to see freezing conditions through Monday morning before temperatures gradually rise.
