Lake Charles, LA – A series of urgent weather alerts issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) warns residents in southwest Louisiana and southeast Texas of freezing temperatures, strong winds, and dangerous wind chills set to impact the area through Monday morning.

According to the NWS, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with southwest winds of 20 to 25 mph and gusts up to 35 mph expected. A Freeze Warning and Cold Weather Advisory will follow from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday, with sub-freezing temperatures between 28 to 32 degrees and wind chills as low as 18 to 25 degrees anticipated.

The advisory spans portions of central and southern Louisiana, including Lafayette, St. Landry, and Calcasieu Parishes, as well as southeast Texas counties such as Hardin and Jasper. Impacts may include hypothermia, frostbite, crop damage, and power outages caused by gusty winds and falling tree limbs.

Officials urge residents to secure outdoor items, protect plants, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Residents should avoid using generators or grills indoors and ensure pets have proper shelter.

Travelers and high-profile vehicles should exercise caution due to high winds. For full safety measures, visit the National Weather Service website.
