Marshall, Minnesota – Snow continues to coat roads across southwest Minnesota this morning, creating slick travel conditions that could slow drivers on Highway 23 and Highway 59 through midafternoon Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 3 p.m. Saturday for Lyon and Lincoln counties. Additional snowfall between 1 and 3 inches is expected before the system exits later today.

Roads in Marshall, Tyler, Lake Benton and Ivanhoe will remain snow-covered at times, especially on untreated county routes and rural highways. Intersections, bridges and overpasses are most likely to ice up first as temperatures stay below freezing. Even light bursts of snow can reduce visibility and create sudden slick spots.

Motorists should slow down, increase following distance and check 511 before traveling. Crews will continue treating primary routes, but secondary roads may remain slippery into the afternoon.

Snow should taper off by late afternoon, improving visibility. However, patchy slick conditions may linger beyond 3 p.m. as road surfaces refreeze. Additional updates will be issued if conditions worsen.
