Southeast Michigan Weather May 14-17: Thunderstorm Chances Increase Saturday

Detroit, MI – A warming trend is expected across southeast Michigan through the weekend, with temperatures climbing from the 60s Thursday, May 14, into the upper 70s and lower 80s by Saturday and Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac office, clouds will gradually decrease Thursday morning as high pressure builds across the Great Lakes region, bringing mostly dry and calmer weather conditions.

Thursday highs are expected to range from the lower to middle 60s across southeast Michigan, although communities closer to Lake Huron may remain slightly cooler because of onshore winds. Overnight lows are forecast to fall into the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Forecasters said warmer air will continue building into the region Friday, May 15, with highs reaching the upper 60s and lower 70s across Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint, Pontiac, Port Huron, and surrounding communities.

The warming trend is expected to continue Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17, as highs climb into the upper 70s and lower 80s across much of the state.

Along with the warmer temperatures, thunderstorm chances are expected to gradually increase Saturday as a more active weather pattern develops across the Great Lakes. Forecast models currently show the best opportunities for scattered showers and storms arriving Saturday afternoon into Sunday.

Despite the increasing rain chances, forecasters noted there will still be extended dry periods throughout the weekend.

Residents planning outdoor activities are encouraged to continue monitoring updated forecasts as storm timing and coverage may change over the next several days.
