South Bend, IN – Dry and cooler weather will continue across northern Indiana Thursday, May 14, before warmer temperatures, higher humidity, and increasing thunderstorm chances arrive through the weekend and early next week.
According to the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office, Thursday will feature plenty of sunshine with highs mainly in the lower to middle 60s across the region.
Temperatures are expected to steadily climb Friday, May 15, with highs reaching the low 70s. A few isolated showers may develop Friday morning, mainly along and south of U.S. 24.
Forecasters said humidity levels will noticeably increase by Saturday, May 16, as highs climb into the lower to middle 80s. Rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop during the afternoon and evening hours Saturday, with storm chances continuing Sunday.
By Monday and Tuesday, May 18-19, a more active weather pattern is expected to settle across northern Indiana, bringing additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Meteorologists said some storms could become strong, especially later Monday and again Tuesday as widespread rain and storms move through the region.
Cities including South Bend, Fort Wayne, Elkhart, Warsaw, and Michigan City could all see periods of thunderstorms through early next week.
Despite the repeated storm chances, forecasters emphasized that the forecast does not call for continuous rainfall each day, with several dry periods expected between systems.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts through the weekend as severe weather details become clearer and storm timing evolves.
