Sioux Falls, SD – Winter weather continues to dominate South Dakota this week, with light snow and fluctuating temperatures impacting daily activities. Drivers should exercise caution Thursday morning as slick roadways may develop due to overnight snowfall.

According to the National Weather Service, flurries and light snow showers will return overnight, potentially leaving up to half an inch of accumulation by Thursday morning. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 18°F Thursday, with northwest winds of up to 10 mph creating colder wind chills. Drivers should allow extra time for travel, especially on less-treated roadways like local and county routes.

Thursday night will see a significant drop in temperatures, with lows dipping to around 2°F. Winds are expected to calm, but the frigid air will persist into Friday. While Friday will offer mostly cloudy skies and a high of 32°F, colder conditions are set to return by the weekend. Saturday will remain partly sunny with a high of 30°F, but nighttime lows will plummet to single digits.

Looking ahead, the extended forecast suggests a quieter start to the next week, with Sunday bringing mostly sunny skies and a high of 29°F.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for colder conditions, ensure vehicles are winter-ready, and stay updated with changing weather forecasts. For the latest updates, monitor local forecasts and check road conditions before traveling.
