New York, NY – Frigid temperatures continue across New York on Thursday, with single-digit lows reported in the Hudson Valley and freezing conditions blanketing much of the state. Travelers planning post-Christmas trips should prepare for a sharp change in weather as rain and milder temperatures move in this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will stay in the 20s and low 30s today, with wind chills making it feel significantly colder. Wind gusts between 5 and 15 mph will contribute to the chill, creating potentially hazardous conditions for anyone exposed to the cold for long periods.

Friday brings slight relief with mostly sunny skies and highs reaching the upper 30s, but rain chances increase overnight. By Saturday, widespread showers will dominate the forecast, with steady rain beginning in the morning and continuing into the evening. Weekend highs will climb into the mid-50s, offering brief respite from the cold.

Those traveling along I-87 and I-95 should be cautious, especially Saturday and Sunday, when rain may cause slick roads and reduced visibility. Drivers are urged to allow extra time and check road conditions before departing.

Sunday night brings a 90% chance of additional rainfall, with temperatures dropping to the low 50s. The rain persists into Monday, further impacting holiday travelers heading home.

Residents should use this time to prepare for wet and windy conditions while taking advantage of today’s calmer weather to complete outdoor errands.
